Hq Guesthouse was awesome! It made our Xi'an experience so great. Loved the place, the company, the breakfast, the hospitality. Thanks for making Xi'an so easy and fun!

To whoever is going to manage to read this, Hq Hostel... what to say? When you see, you think "oh oh, its nice... maybe a bit too cozy..." But then you meet Mei and Todd, these guys are the friendliest I met in China. I will remember the night out with Todd and ... hum the next. I loved the two days touring around with Mei. They have just (unclear word) and they are willing to keep going ... give you advice and your opinion. I really hope you are going to get great business mate. We definately keep in touch. Take care guys
Greg
PS: Mei don't use your whip too much and Todd come on you have forgotten again the 2nd item on the list.... I guess you are doing it on purpose.... (unclear)!!
Cheers Greg mate. You were a legend and thanks for the pc tips. Cheers!
Mount Huashan Sunrise. "It was a bit of an experience. I think we had the same idea as every second person in China by going at night to avoid the crowds- pretty spectacular though."
Thank you for all your help Mei and Todd. I am afraid I don't have an interesting story to share here, as I bet I am the guest who has seen the least of Xi'an! I just didn't have the heart to brave the weather! Lovely to meet you both and best
of luck with the hostel. Katherine, (Bris, Aust)

"Hq Hostel is very cool, and that is without even mentioning the best hospitality ever. We contacted them through their website to which they replied immediately to our email enquiry. We were happy to book with them for 4 nights in Xi'an
After the hectic train ride from Beijing, all burdens dissipated when met at the station and taken to the hostel which is perfectly located in the centre of town. The owners are a kiwi and a chinese and have both travelled all over the world. To say they took helpfulness to a new level is an understatement. The place is clean and new but very cozy. When we were not out visiting some of Xi'ans amazing cultural sites, most of the time we hung out in the DvD dungeon watching movies or listening to wicked beats. Hq have tonnes of Dvds, happening tunes and a comfy, feet up type of setup. The duvets are big and warm, there is plenty of room, and overall the place feels like if you were going to stay at a mates place in a different city. The inhouse slogan which states "project positive vibes and they will come back to you", suits the place like a snug mitten. We seemed to be covered in a warm glow
At 50rmb for a bunk/night in either a 6 bunk or 8 bunk dorm you cant go too wrong ( they also have a spacious and comfortable doubleroom which goes for 140 rmb/night). The breakfast is all good which includes 2 eggs, toast, cereal, yougurt and coffee/tea available if you let them know the day before, and who can complain about 15 rmb to start the day right. Hq, which stands for "headquarters of the Terra Cotta Army" also offer fruit, yougurt, noodles, drinks, beer, coffee, chips, cakes, etc all at very reasonable prices (fruit 2rmb/piece, beer 7rmb for Qingdao, noodles 5rmb, etc.
The shower is unreal, with 24 hour hot water, washing machine, safe lock-up, an excellent selection of books and magazines for you to read, free tea, and anything else you would like they can probably get for you. They give "crash chinese" lessons for free, to help with the basics, and saved us a heap of money in souviner shopping thanks to their advice about the art of negotiation. They also offer guides if you require or are just as happy to point you in the right direction if you want to be adventurous. They helped us organize ourselves to see some of the cultural hotspots, and also sorted out our return train tickets to Beijing. I am told they can help with trips to the Yangtze river and flight tickets all over China aswell.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is visiting Xi'an. It offers a perfect location in Xi'an while the owners really enjoy meeting new people and helping travellers to get the best possible experience of Xi'an, and China. The east meets west management style truley offers the best of both worlds. Definately recommend this place to anyone! "
Thanks! Loved here!

This has simply been a fantastic place to stay, more like home than a hostel! Mei has been so welcoming and able to sort everything so easily. Wish I could have stayed longer than 3 days, there is so much to see in Xi'an. Thanks for everything Mei.

There are bigger hostels in Xi'An and probably slightly cheaper ones, but there can not be a better hostel than HQ. I stumbled across it when looking for somewhere to watch the rugby world cup final. I liked what i saw and decided to move from where i was staying at the shuyuan (which was fine) and spend three fantastic nights. The hospitality shown by Todd and Mei was first class; nothing was too much trouble for them, from helping with train tickets to advising me on an itinery and even inviting me out for a fantastic hotpot. It was a shame to leave in the end. I would throughly recommend this place to anyone

I ran into Todd, one of the owners, on the street while wandering around Xi'an and it turned out to be the best stroke of luck I had in that city. The place was comfortable and the atmosphere friendly, unlike a lot of big hostels. Mei, the other owner, even helped to book my plane ticket to Shanghai.
The location of the hostel is also convenient--right in the center of town, near the Bell Tower--so it's pretty easy to get around. The Muslim quarter and Drum Tower are also well within easy walking distance.
If i were to travel to Xi'an again I would definitely stay here. I've already recommended it to a few peole that i've met in my travels elsewhere in China
